Teen Pregnancy & Sex Education

In order for young people to take responsibility for their behavior, including the prevention of unintended pregnancy, they must have access to comprehensive, medically accurate sex education, information, and reproductive health care.  Planned Parenthood believes that whenever possible, parents should be the primary sexuality educators in a young person's life. However, some young people have difficulty discussing these issues with their parents for a variety of reasons — including fear of parental abuse.

When healthy family communication is not possible, Planned Parenthood is here to help young people.  Planned Parenthood also helps young people and their parents talk with one another about important sexual and reproductive health issues.  We provide sexuality education and work to ensure it is offered worldwide in diverse settings, including the home, schools, public health facilities, religious institutions, and youth-serving organizations.
