  • Grassroots Campus Organizing Internship
    Do you want to work with others to help educate students about sexual health and reproductive rights?

Overall Job Responsibility:
The Grassroots Campus Organizer Intern will work on campus to raise student awareness about reproductive rights. You will plan ways to engage the campus community on issues surrounding reproductive health and choice including festivals, forums, event tabling, etcetera.

What is VOX?
Vox is the Latin word for "voice" and VOX®: Voices for Planned Parenthood, is a nationwide program designed to energize and mobilize the new generation of pro-choice Americans. VOX aims to educate and inspire a new generation of young adults to advocate for reproductive freedom. Staff at Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood will serve as advisors and mentors to get you moving in the right direction, and will provide you with supplies from Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Many campuses have existing VOX® groups. This internship is not limited to students belonging to schools with current VOX® groups. Your school may have student groups, organizations, clubs, or committees committed to reproductive health issues. Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood is willing to work with and support these existing groups.

Requirements:
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Knowledge of the current threats to reproductive health and choice.

  • Marketing Internship
    Want to put your marketing skills to work? Want to promote reproductive health services?

Job Responsibilities:
1. Work with Vice President for Public Affairs and Marketing, as well as the Director of Communications and Marketing, on upgrading the agency web site.
2. Place updated information on the web site as needed.
3. Monitor and report on health service marketing in the capital region media.
4. Participate in creative development of multi-media marketing campaigns to promote reproductive health services.
5. Track effectiveness of marketing campaign through collection and tabulation of client surveys.
6. Table at concerts, health fairs, and other events to promote health services.
7. All interns will be required to assist in general clerical work such as shredding, collating, photocopying, data entry, and mailings.

Requirements:
-Completion of at least one marketing course.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Experience with basic web site development.

Reports to: Blue Carreker, Vice President for Public Affairs and Marketing

  • Public Relations Internship
    Want to put your communication skills to work, promoting comprehensive/medically accurate/age-appropriate sexual health education, reproductive rights and health services?

Job Responsibilities:
1. Update local media contact list for effective pro-active public relations and quick response.
2. Monitor, clip, and archive related coverage in the capital region media.
3. Research and pitch stories to broadcasted, printed, and online media outlets.
4. Compose and distribute press releases.
5. Help organize press conferences, including press advisory distribution, follow-up calls and assembly of press packets.
6. Table at concerts, health fairs and other events to promote health services.
7. All interns will be required to assist in general clerical work such as shredding, collating, photocopying, data entry, and mailings.

Requirements:
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Excellent organizing skills, an "eye for detail."
-Experience with internet use for research and information dissemination.

Reports to: Blue Carreker, Vice President of Public Affairs and Marketing

  • Community Education Internship
    Are you passionate about sex education?  Think young people deserve to learn about sexual health?  Want to apply your education and communication skills to help promote comprehensive sex education?

Job Responsibilities:
1. Work with education staff on various teen pregnancy prevention and sexual health education efforts.
2. Identify and organize sexual health curricula, activities and resources.
3. Assist in planning and delivering basic sexual health education presentations to community groups.
4. Engage in research about sexual health articles, topics, resources and activities
5. Assist in coordinating logistics of UHPP's weekly teen clinic (including: scheduling and supervising S.T.A.R.S. peer educators, setting up teen waiting space, arranging resources and reserving library).
6. Assist in coordinating mentorship opportunities with staff and S.T.A.R.S. peer educators.
7. Chaperone teen events and activities with peer educators and after-school programs.
8. Participate and plan outreach activities (including tabling at fairs, festivals, meetings and school events).
9. Participate in creative development of sexual health campaigns, forums and meetings.
10. Track effectiveness of educational activities through collection and tabulation of participant data.

Requirements:
-Completion of at least one public speaking course.
-Experience with basic IT technology.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Excellent organizational skills, with capacity to multi-task
-Mon.-Thurs. late afternoons and some weekend hours required.
-Pro-Choice and commitment to Planned Parenthood mission and services

Reports to: Sexual Health Educator and Youth Program Coordinator

  • Public Affairs Internship
    Are you passionate about an individual’s right to make personal and responsible decisions about pregnancy and parenthood?

Job Responsibilities:
1. Track legislative activity at state and federal level.
2. Support legislative advocacy campaigns through phone banking, canvassing, petitions drives and email advocacy.
3. Help organize and participate in legislative lobby visits.
4. Help plan events to raise awareness and recruit activists.
5. Staff info tables at UHPP centers and community events.
6. Recruit and record staff and patient stories to utilize in advocacy campaigns.
7. Track and attend candidate forums and ask questions that will keep reproductive rights in dialogue.
8. Help develop and post new content on Facebook pages and agency web site
9. Other tasks as needed

Requirements:
-Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
-Excellent organizing skills, and “eye for detail”.
-Experience with internet use for research and advocacy.
-Experience with event organizing and promotion using Facebook and other ‘IT’ tools.
-Commitment to Planned Parenthood’s mission and services.

Reports to: Blue Carreker, Vice President of Public Affairs and Marketing.

  • Health Education Internship

Job Responsibilities (Could be assigned any of the following):
1. Work with education staff on various teen pregnancy prevention and sexual health education efforts.
2. Identify and organize sexual health curricula, activities and resources.
3. Assist in planning and delivering basic sexual health education presentations to community groups.
4. Engage in research about sexual health articles, topics, resources and activities.
5. Assist in coordinating logistics of UHPP’s weekly teen clinic (including: scheduling and supervising
STARS peer educators, setting up teen waiting space, arranging resources, and reserving library).
6. Assist in coordinating mentorship opportunities with staff and STARS peer educators.
7. Chaperone teen events and activities with peer educators and after-school programs.
8. Participate and plan outreach activities (including tabling at fairs, festivals, meetings and school events).
9. Participate in creative development of sexual health education campaigns, forums and meetings.
10. Track effectiveness of educational activities through collection and tabulation of participant data.

In addition, all interns will be required to assist with the following tasks, as needed: General clerical and support work, including: shredding, collating, photocopying, mailings, researching, stocking resources, packing/unpacking for outreach tabling events, and creating EC and/or safer-kits kits.

Job Requirements:
Completion of at least one public speaking course.
Experience with basic IT technology/Internet use for basic information research and communication.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills, with capacity to “multi-task”.
Mon.-Thurs. late afternoons and some weekend hours required.

Reports to: Education Director and/or Youth Program Facilitator

  • Patient Services Internship

Job Responsibilities:
1. Assist patients with completing intake forms.
2. Explain and help assess eligibility for Medicaid and expanded Medicaid coverage programs.
3. Assist patients with completing enrollment forms for coverage programs.
4. Utilize Language Line as needed for the above tasks.
5. Operate TV/DVD, ensure waiting area is clean, organized, well stocked and bulletin boards are updated.
6. Assist with re-filing pulled charts.
7. Distribute and collect patient complaint forms at patients’ request.
8. Make appointment reminder calls.

In addition, all interns will be required to assist with the following tasks, as needed: General clerical and support work, including: shredding, collating, photocopying.

Job Requirements:
1. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
2. Legible handwriting.
3. Commitment to patient service and to UHPP values and mission
4. 1. Successful completion of 2 hour training program and skills test.
5. PPD and Flu Immunization.
6. Signed Privacy Statement and Volunteer Code of Conduct.
7. Adherence to agency dress code.

Reports to: Director, Albany Health Center

The Graphic Design internship is brand new and the duties are currently being devised. There will be some pre-requisites for Graphic Design interns. Check back soon for more details.
