Other Important Facts About Obamacare:
- The law will require most Americans to have health insurance beginning in 2014. You will be asked to document your insurance coverage when you file your 2014 taxes.
- In New York State, it will be easier for those who are uninsured to qualify for expanded Medicaid coverage. If you don't qualify for Medicaid, you will be able to select from a variety of new, more affordable health insurance plans.
- It will also be much easier to enroll in these insurance plans. You don't have to go to a government office or produce lots of paperwork or documentation.
- Enrollment will take place between October 1, 2013 and March 30, 2014.
- Most people who qualify for new health insurance plans will receive financial assistance to pay for their monthly insurance premiums. Depending on your income, you may qualify for a very low cost plan.
- All insurance plans will have to cover preventive care, including annual exams and a range of birth control options, at no cost-so you pay nothing for these services. Plans must also cover doctor visits, hospitalizations, maternity care, ER care, and prescriptions.
- Planned Parenthood Federation of America has developed a national web site to help you get the facts about this new law and to see how it will affect you and your access to Planned Parenthood services. That web site is www.plannedparenthood.org\healthinsurance.
