Biography of Patricia A. McGeown, President/CEO
Patricia A. McGeown has served as President/CEO of Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood since 1995. During her tenure, she has overseen the expansion of UHPP medical services to include prenatal care services, a variety of walk-in clinics, and the provision of medication abortion. Based on her commitment to meeting the needs of youth, the agency developed and obtained funding for the highly acclaimed S.T.A.R.S. (Seriously Talking About Responsible Sex) pregnancy prevention program for high schools in Albany and Columbia County, as well as the Teen Choices program for middle school students in those same counties. During McGeown’s tenure, UHPP has also played a leadership role in collaborative efforts aimed at improving HIV education and testing services in the Capital Region including the federally funded Northeast New York HIV Prevention Network and the Capital District Take the Test Coalition and built a email activist base of over 1200 local pro-choice residents. Ms. McGeown came to UHPP with a long and distinguished background in the health care field. She holds a Master's Degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan School of Public Health and a faculty appointment at the SUNY School of Public Health. Prior to her appointment at UHPP, she served as Deputy Executive Director of the Health Systems Agency of NENY and as Assistant Commissioner for Medicaid in the New York State Department of Social Services. She is the former President of the New York State Public Health Association and served for a decade on the Governing Council of the American Public Health Association. McGeown is also the current President of the New York State Affiliates of Planned Parenthood (NYSAPP), a private, non-profit statewide association whose purpose is to foster collaboration and coordinate communication among the 12 Planned Parenthood affiliates in the state. Additionally, she served for 12 years as President of Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York, a non-partisan, voluntary political organization made up of delegates from Planned Parenthood affiliates across New York State, dedicated to supporting women's reproductive rights and better health care for women and their families. Ms. McGeown has been recognized by the YWCA of Schenectady as a Capital District Woman of Achievement and she is a frequent speaker on issues of women’s health, reproductive rights, and health planning.
