On October 22nd UHPP celebrated its 75th Anniversary with an evening of great food, music, and company, and a presentation by our special guest speaker, Dr. Kenneth Edelin. Participants convened at Franklin Plaza in Troy to commemorate and recognize all the work that UHPP has done over the last 75 years, and to honor Dr. Fred Storm, UHPP's Vice President for Medical Affairs and the recipient of our Docky Award. The award was named for UHPP’s first physician/provider, Dr. Frances “Docky” Vosburgh and is presented to those who have made exceptional contributions to UHPP programs and services.

Since 1987, Dr. Fred C. Storm has served as the Medical Director for Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood. Few Planned Parenthood affiliates in the country can boast of a longer tenured Medical Director and certainly none has had a more beloved one. In his work with UHPP, Dr. Storm has helped thousands of women with family planning decisions, gynecological care and pregnancy termination. He has mentored scores of young physicians and mid-level practitioners, sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience with grace and good humor.
Prior to joining UHPP, Fred worked in a local OB/GYN practice where he delivered hundreds of babies. He has also served as an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Albany Medical College.
The following are words of congratulations and support for Dr. Storm:
Proudly through the years I have watched you struggle to preserve a woman's right to choice. Neither threats nor danger have ever caused you to waiver in your decision many years ago to do battle for the cause. Congratulations and love. Suzanne
Compassionate, caring, committed, dedicated – these are the words I associate with you. Thank you for all that you have done for UHPP and for the women and families of the Capital Region and beyond. Pat McGeown, UHPP President and CEO

Over the years patients sometimes would worry about seeing a doctor they didn’t know, especially a male. I would always tell them, don’t worry, he’s not like any other doctor you’ve ever met and you will love him. Every patient has told me later I was right and you were great. You are the best and there can never be another like you. Always, Toni
Dr. Storm, it is an honor to work with you. Chelly
Congratulations on an award well deserved. UHPP is so very lucky to have had your commitment and talents for so many years. Best Wishes! Barbara
Dr. Storm - the real hero of Planned Parenthood for the last 20 years +. We would not have gone this far without you. A million thank you’s. Best wishes, Tena
Congratulations!! You have no idea how much we appreciate you. You have done everything and anything without question or fail! You deserve this award more than anyone. Enjoy it! Leigh
Fred, I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the Docky Award! Every time I am out in the community and I mention I work for UHPP, someone always comes up to me and asks, “Do you work with Fred Storm? You are so lucky!” I’ve enjoyed sharing 2nd floor office space with you over these many years. You are always so happy to be at work; always ready to answer a medical question; always willing to chat-- even during those few precious minutes that you call your lunch time; and you are always whistling down our hallway! I think it only appropriate that you add the “Docky Award” to join your Triathlon Award in your trophy case! Thank you for being such a great advocate, educator, provider and colleague! Congratulations again, Fred!!! Rob

There is no award nor words that can explain how much you are greatly appreciated. I am honored to have met such a terrific doctor as yourself. Although I do not see you a lot to acknowledge what a wonderful job you do I believe in my heart that you know you are an idol to me. Love always, Tashona
You helped me stay child-free for 20 years and I am always grateful for your presence in my life. Robin
I salute Fred Storm, MD for his courage and medical expertise in protecting the health and privacy rights of thousands of Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood's patients during the past twenty years. I am delighted that he is being honored tonight. Ruth
Politics and the atmosphere surrounding choice and women’s health are ever changing, however you have been a constant advocate in our communities for decades. You are so deserving of this award and this night. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with you. Julie
I cannot over-state the personal and professional impact you have had in the decade I have served UHPP. My work is made so much easier by your constant, grounded and steadfast service to our patients. Through picketing, death threats, funding cuts, media gaffes and mountains of protocols and paperwork, you have never faltered in your commitment to reproductive choice. Your warmth and humor always brighten my day. Thank you! Blue
Thank you so much for all your time, education and patience. I am truly honored to have such a wonderful man as my attending physician. Not only are you incredibly intelligent and humble, but you are an advocate for all women. For all these reasons and many more, I simply and loudly say THANK YOU! With respect and admiration, Bev
Dr Storm, you are truly invaluable to the medical mission of not only Planned Parenthood but to all seeking paramount health care regardless of socioeconomic background, educational background and all the isms that define our world. You are inspirational to your peers and colleagues alike as a true mentor and leader in the field of medicine at large. Christine
Thank You for all you do and continue to do. It is an honor to work with you. Mary
Thank you for your extraordinary commitment to women’s health and for always providing your patients with a safe, accessible and confidential environment in which to seek services. We appreciate your work greatly; congratulations on this great achievement! Gabriella
Dr. Storm, you are an inspiration to me. Thank you for being my teacher, role model and most of all a lovely, gentle, caring person. You are loved by all who work with you and the many patients you care for. You are very deserving of this award. Congratulations! Love, Nora
