Spare Change is a program where teens teach their peers about the realities and responsibilities that come with their developing sexuality. Trained peer educators offer one-on-one support and also teach in the schools about a wide range of topics including abstinence, healthy relationships, sexual harassment, homophobia, sexually transmitted infections, birth control, and body image. The Spare Change Theatre Troupe focuses on the same topics while writing and producing a show each academic year.
Spare Change peer educators reached 2,900 youth and community members in theater performances at 14 sites and classroom presentations at 10 middle schools during the 2007-2008 school year.
