Board Members at Six Rivers Planned Parenthood come from a variety of backgrounds and work experiences, bringing a wide range of skills and knowledge to the table. When the Board is looking to add new members, they look for people who have experience or insight into areas that would bring benefits to the organization, who are leaders in the community or in other businesses, who have strong connections to others in the community, especially those who hold the same values as our organization, and who are representative of diverse populations. Members of the SRPP Board are carefully selected for their wisdom and insight, leadership, and commitment. Board Members are proud of what they do and our organization is proud to have such a strong group of leaders. Here is what some of our current Board Members have to say about serving as volunteers on the Board:
“SRPP Board membership offers the opportunity to become deeply committed to a mission that serves every aspect of our community and beyond. I find great personal satisfaction in knowing my time is well spent at board meetings (working with each other), tabling events, fund raising, committee meetings, and “talking-up” the importance of SRPP’s all inclusive mission in between our board meetings. SRPP’s effectiveness goes far beyond what I do…SRPP improves the lives of other people. I love being part of the team and hold the notion that we are all here to help one another. Serving on the SRPP board allows me to act on that notion.”
~ Pam Cavanagh, Board Chair
“I am proud to be on the SRPP board. I am one of many Americans fighting the good fight to help preserve women’s’ rights and access to quality reproductive health care.” ~ Pat Faeth, Board Member
“I enjoy working with this dynamic group of thoughtful, caring and intelligent people who share with me the dedication to SRPP and its mission. Being an advocate for the organization and doing whatever is needed to help SRPP be true to its mission statement, ensuring access to reproductive and sexual health care for all, providing education and supporting reproductive freedom. Each board member serves in their own unique way. It’s huge commitment, but very rewarding. I am honored to be a part of SRPP.” ~ Carolyn Hino-Bourassa, Board Member
Board members typically commit to a three-year term, serve on at least one committee, and generally spend about 4 to 10 hours a month on SRPP activities. The committees that board members serve on include Finance, Resource Development, Board Development, Planned Giving, Audit, Information & Education, Public Affairs, Young Advocates for Choice, Medical, and Clergy for Choice committees. Activities that Board members participate in include relationship building with donors and supporters, strategic planning, outreach at community events, advocacy work, and acting as a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood in the community. Board Members also pledge a personal annual donation to the organization.
We are grateful to have these dedicated, caring individuals as part of our team at Six Rivers Planned Parenthood.
