The soon-to-be-introduced bills (one in the House and one in the Senate) outline public policies that reduce the need for abortion by educating young people about how to make wise decisions before they become sexually active and by increasing access to birth control.
Planned Parenthood Affiliates of Ohio, NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio, NCJW, the ACLU of Ohio, the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, and several other pro-choice, pro-prevention organizations all recruited hundreds of volunteers from around Ohio to tell lawmakers that medically accurate sex ed and increased access to low-cost birth control is good for women, teens, and taxpayers.
Featured speaker and Pulitzer-Prize winning columnist Connie Schultz stressed the need for women to speak up about their health care needs. "When you get on a plane, they always tell you, 'If the oxygen masks come down from the ceiling, put your mask on before helping others.' We're not being selfish by taking care of ourselves." She also urged the attendees to consider running for office.
