Important Message About Planned Parenthood's Annual Luncheon

As most listeners to The Diane Rehm Show are probably aware, Ms. Rehm’s husband, John, underwent major surgery on his back in December.  Mr. Rehm, who also suffers from Parkinson’s disease, is in a rehabilitation center for an indefinite period of time.

Recently, Ms. Rehm contacted us personally to say that, due to her husband’s condition, she must cancel all engagements in the foreseeable future that are outside Washington, D.C.  We are saddened by this turn of events on a number of levels.  We sympathize with Ms. Rehm and completely understand the decision to put her family first.

The show must go on however, and Planned Parenthood’s annual luncheon is still scheduled to take place on March 27.  The luncheon will feature a timely and compelling speaker who we plan to announce soon, as soon as the contract is signed.

While we stand ready to offer refunds to those of you who request them, we sincerely hope you will consider joining us at our annual luncheon.

We cannot overstate the importance of having a successful annual luncheon. Over the past year, the challenges to family planning and Planned Parenthood have only become more difficult.  The State has already ended the family planning contracts that previously funded health care for poor women, and now it is poised to end the Medicaid Women’s Health Program as lawmakers place political posturing above the well-being of Texas women and families.  Funds raised by the annual luncheon are desperately needed to help people who need financial assistance receive family planning and essential health care like life-saving cancer screenings and treatment, Pap tests and breast exams, and STD treatment and prevention.  As always, no luncheon funds will be used towards abortion care.

We will announce our new speaker as soon as possible.  Stay tuned!
