Mirena® IUD

Mirena is birth control that lasts up to five years

Mirena® (levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system) is a long-lasting birth control option that is placed in the uterus (intrauterine). Mirena is more than 99% effective at preventing pregnancy for as long as five years. Mirena delivers small amounts of hormone directly to the uterus. Made of soft, flexible plastic, Mirena is put in place by a healthcare provider during an office visit. Mirena should be placed within seven days of the start of your period.
