The purpose of the Friends of Planned Parenthood of San Diego & Riverside Counties is to increase awareness of the agency’s mission and programs. We do this by encouraging our members to take part in fundraising efforts, friend-raising efforts, and volunteering.
The Friends group is governed by an executive board chosen by members at large. The president of the Friends also sits on the PPSDRC Board of Directors.
The Friends fundraise through a variety of popular events, including the Annual Dinner and occasional Home Tours. Proceeds from these events go directly to programs and services at Planned Parenthood.
“Every Child a Wanted Child”
For nearly 50 years, Planned Parenthood has provided high-quality reproductive health care in San Diego and Riverside counties. There are currently 19 clinic locations serving more than 140,000 patients each year. In addition to medical services, Planned Parenthood provides a variety of educational programs for individuals, families, teachers and other professionals. The agency also works with community leaders and elected officials to protect policies supporting family planning and a woman’s right to choose.
Planned Parenthood also offers reproductive health care services and education in the migrant farm worker camps in Riverside County and at the Women’s Detention Facility at Las Colinas. For the past 20 years, Fronteras Unidas Pro Salud (Planned Parenthood’s sister program in Baja California) has reached out to tens of thousands of Tijuana residents with both medical and educational services.
Since its inception in 1978, the Friends have donated more than $200,000 to various programs at Planned Parenthood.

The Make A Difference Fund
The Friends is proud to partner with the Make A Difference Fund, which helps women across the nation afford access to safe abortion services. All money raised by the Make A Difference Fund is pledged to women in need and sent directly to established clinics. Donations are gratefully accepted on the Make A Difference Fund website.
Accessibility continues to cause women to delay getting an abortion in the first trimester when it is safer, less expensive and easier on them. 87% of counties in the United States currently have no access to an abortion provider, and 25% of women have to travel more than 100 miles to reach a provider. The volunteers and financial supporters of the Make A Difference Fund are passionate about preventing women from harming themselves or turning to an unlicensed person to perform an unsafe abortion because the procedure is too expensive, not covered by insurance or simply not available where they live.
