Speakers Bureau

Speakers Bureau offers education to community organizations and groups by providing information through on-site presentations to aid the public in making responsible choices regarding their sexuality and sexual health. All presentations are $40 each. Sliding fee scale is available for those who qualify.

Each of our Community Outreach presentations are 1 hour in length and are designed using current Best Practice curriculum development models and medically accurate, age appropriate information.

Presentations Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains offers the community the following presentations:

Talk is Power: Intended for parents and youth serving professionals, participants will have a basic understanding that it is important to communicate with young people about sexuality.

Specifically, they will be able to answer the following:

• What are my values regarding young people and sexuality?
• How can I answer questions about sexuality?
• What are some skills I can use to engage youth in communication about sexuality?

Anatomy: Participants will have a basic understanding of the reproductive system and understand that knowledge about sexual anatomy can contribute to good health.

Specifically, they will be able to answer the following:

• What are the parts of the reproductive system and sexual anatomy?
• What are their functions?
• How do people keep their reproductive system and sexual anatomy healthy?

Abstinence: Participants will have a basic understanding that people can choose not to engage in certain sexual behaviors.

Specifically, they will be able to answer the following:

• What is sexual abstinence?
• Why would people choose sexual abstinence?
• What makes sexual abstinence work?

Contraception: Participants will have a basic understanding of birth control methods and how they can help people plan for or prevent pregnancy. 

Specifically, they will be able to answer the following:

• What is birth control?  
• What are common birth control methods? 
• What are some factors to consider when choosing birth control methods?  

Sexually Transmitted Diseases: Participants will understand that behavior can determine a person’s risk for STD transmission.

Specifically, they will be able to answer the following:

• What is an STD?
• How is an STD transmitted?
• How can I protect myself from STDs?

Puberty: Participants will understand that puberty is a universally experienced transition during which people undergo changes.

Specifically, they will be able to answer the following:

• What is Puberty?
• What are the changes that people experience during puberty? 
• How can people take care of their changing bodies? 

Healthy Relationships: Participants will understand that people can choose to be in a healthy relationship

Specifically, they will be able to answer the following:

• What are possible elements of a relationship?
• Which elements exist in the relationship I am in now?
• If I wanted to change my relationship, what are the options and resources available?

Realities of Teen Parenting: Participants will understand that parenting as a teen can impact one’s life in many ways.

Specifically, they will be able to answer the following:

• How would your life change if you became a teen parent?

Refusal Skills: Participants will understand that people always have the right to refuse any sexual activity.

Specifically they will be able to answer the following:

• What is consent?
• What are some skills someone could use to respectfully respond when pressured to do something s/he doesn’t want to do?

Understanding Pregnancy Options: Participants will understand that a woman has choices regarding her pregnancy including: developing a parenting or adoption plan choosing an abortion.

Specifically they will be able to answer:

• What is a parenting plan?
• What is an adoption plan?
• What is abortion?
