Dollar-A-Day

The Dollar-A-Day program helps High School age females who have never been pregnant before avoid unintended pregnancy by providing necessary and accurate information on the importance of healthy responsible sexuality in a group support setting. It is an incentive-based program with a community service component and serves as a national model for similar incentive-based pregnancy prevention programs.

Lasting the entire year, meeting weekly, and based on the psycho-social educational group model, participants are empowered to make informed decisions with regard to their sexual health. The Dollar-A-Day program promotes abstinence as the most effective way to prevent unintended pregnancy and STDs and follows a holistic approach to exploring the components of sexuality by providing information about basic contraception, STD transmission, assertive communication, and exploring issues regarding body image and sexual assault.

A core component of the Dollar-A-Day program is the mentor relationship created between program participants and adult facilitators. Adult mentors support participants by providing honest, accurate education as a trusted confidant who cares about their future.

Currently, Dollar-A-Day is only offered in select locations in Colorado. If you are interested in starting a Dollar-A-Day program in your area, please call 1-800-230-PLAN (7526) for further information.
