Emergency Contraception (EC)
EC is a safe and effective way to prevent pregnancy after you have unprotected intercourse. Emergency contraception is sometimes called the "morning-after pill" backup birth control, or by the brand name Plan B. EC must be taken within 120 hours — five days — after unprotected intercourse. The sooner it is started, the more effective it will be. EC is available over the counter at many pharmacies to women and men over 17. Teens under 17 can still get EC with a prescription.
