What if I am covered by my parents' health insurance?

Planned Parenthood accepts many kinds of health insurance so it is possible that your parents' health insurance can be used to cover your services. However, if you don't want to use your parents' insurance due to confidentiality concerns, it's okay - you can apply for the Family Planning Benefit Program and receive free services. Your parents and their insurance company will not be informed that you have applied for the Family Planning Benefit Program.

Is my eligibility based on my parents' income?

No, if you are unable to provide proof of your parents' income, then your parents' income won't count. Your application will be based on your own income, which may qualify you for free services. Click here to find out.

I go to college here but I'm from another part of New York State. Am I eligible?

The Family Planning Benefit Program is a New York State health program. The benefits are good anywhere in the state. You must be a New York State resident. If your legal address (probably your parents' address) is in New York State, you are eligible. This is the same kind of residency requirement that is used for financial aid if you are attending a SUNY college or local community college in New York State.

Here's a neat fact: your Family Planning Benefit Program participation is transferrable within New York State. So ,you can sign up here and still participate if you transfer to another college, move to do an internship or go home for the summer as long as the health care provider is within New York State and accepts Medicaid.

I'm from out-of-state but go to college here. Am I eligible?

Sorry, only students with New York State residency can qualify. However, Planned Parenthood can offer you services on sliding fee basis that can fit your budget.
