FAQs

I have private insurance/am enrolled in a managed care (HMO) plan. Will my insurance pay for services at PPRSR?
PPRSR accepts most private insurance and participates in many managed care health plans. Call 1-866-600-6886 to find out if we are in your health plan and what services are included in your coverage.

Do I need to get a referral from my primary care provider or health plan before coming to PPRSR?
No. A referral is not necessary.

I have Medicaid. Will it pay for services at PPRSR?
Yes. PPRSR accepts Medicaid for all of our services. Bring your Medicaid card to the visit.

I am enrolled in a Medicaid health plan. Can I come to PPRSR?
Yes. New York State law says you have Free Access to the family planning and GYN services you need. That means you can always come to PPRSR; it doesn't matter if PPRSR is in your Medicaid health plan or not. You don't need a referral from your regular doctor.

If PPRSR is not in your health plan or if your health plan does not cover the services you need, you can use your Medicaid card. Bring your health plan card and your Medicaid card to the visit. You will not be turned away.

What services does PPRSR provide if I am in a Medicaid health plan?
If you have Medicaid or Medicaid managed care, you can come to Planned Parenthood for:

  • Birth control pills, condoms, foams, diaphragms, IUDs and Depo-Provera
  • Abortion (medical and surgical)
  • Pelvic and breast exams, including Pap tests
  • Pregnancy testing and counseling
  • Emergency contraception
  • Colposcopy and cryotherapy
  • STD testing and treatment HIV testing and counseling, when part of a family planning visit

I am enrolled in a Child Health Plus or Family Health Plus health plan. Can I come to PPRSR?
Yes. If you are enrolled in a Child Health Plus or Family Health Plus (non-family planning visits require a co-pay) plan, you must use in-network plan providers only. If PPRSR is a provider in your plan’s network, you will be able to visit PPRSR for no charge. Please bring your health plan card to the visit. Call us at 1-866-600-6886 to see if we accept your health plan for the services you need.

If we do not accept your health plan, you may still be able to come to PPRSR. For family planning services, our centers may be able to offer you a lower fee, depending on your income and the services that you need.
