Annual Awards

Rochester Awards

Each year, PPRSR acknowledges service to the Rochester area chapter with two awards - the Margaret Hays Baum Award (the "Miggie") and the Catharine Rowntree Advocacy Award. This year’s award ceremony will be October 10, 2013 at a donor event at the Chatterbox Club. Nominations for these two awards will be accepted until September 10, 2013.

The Margaret Hays Baum Award is presented to an individual in the Rochester community who exemplifies the traits "Miggie" displayed throughout her long relationship with Planned Parenthood - leadership, community spirit, energy, dedication and perseverance. Volunteers, staff and community members providing outstanding service to, or a major achievement on behalf of Planned Parenthood are eligible.

The Catharine Rowntree Advocacy award is presented to an individual in the Rochester community who furthers PPRSR goals through public policy. Catharine knew that the political process is the key to social change and with her unfailing graciousness, tenacity and dedication advocated for women’s health rights. She and Miggie Baum worked to start a Monroe County pro-choice political action committee in the early 1980s. The PAC they started issued an annual voter guide and financially supported pro-choice candidates long before other state and national organizations were doing so. This group evolved into our local Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York  (PPANY). Catharine was on the PPANY Board of Directors since its inception in 1990 and was one of its strongest supporters.
