For Parents and Adults

Are You "Askable"?

Young people are better off when they can safely ask responsible adults for help and advice as they grow and mature.   When it comes to sex, relationships, and other very serious matters, shame, embarrassment, and fear can stand between a confused young person and help from the adult he or she needs.  Planned Parenthood’s “How To Be An Askable Parent” workshops and our “Parent Cafes” help parents and adults by arming them with both the communication skills and factual information necessary for doing right by young people seeking help.

Askable Parents Workshops
This workshop explores the fundamental communication styles between parents/caregivers and their children.  Participants learn how to position themselves as both parent and accessible adult.  Information on talking to your children on a variety of sex-related topics are available.

Parent Cafés
This is the perfect event for parent/caregiver groups both old and new.  Trained Planned Parenthood educators will set up an atmosphere of coffee and conversation in which parents can find support from other parents and professionals at the same time.
