Texas has long been held up as the poster child for abstinence-only sexuality education. In fact, Texas did consistently lead the nation by a wide margin in federal abstinence education dollars - more than $18 million in 2007 alone. The results? Research has proven that abstinence-only programs are ineffective and the funding has been eliminated. But the wake of abstinence-only education is broad. The inaccurate and distorted messages from the abstinence-only days have been enculturated into our school systems. We need knowledgeable parents and professionals to lead the way to change. Come hear Dr. David Wiley, author of the Texas Freedom Network’s Just Say Don’t Know: Sexuality Education in Texas Public Schools, a report on the largest study ever on what is taught in Texas’ sex education classes.
Join us on September17, 2009 Noon until 1:30 p.m. Texas Life Annex. The cost is $10 per person. Click here to see the event flyer.
