Middle and High School
Interactive middle and high school program topics are offered in the specific grades listed as follows. Sessions build upon one another year after year. At the same time, each session can stand alone as a complete presentation. Contact us to schedule a presentation (in Southwestern Oregon only). The middle and high school series of programs includes information about Planned Parenthood and other community services, and a strong emphasis on healthy relationships.
The New 3Rs: Rights, Respect, Responsibility (Grades 9-12; grade 8 upon request)
Why are teen pregnancy, birth, abortion, and STI rates in Western Europe dramatically lower than in the US? Why do youth in Germany, France and the Netherlands delay sex longer than US youth? This program stimulates conversation about the significant differences and poses the question, "Can we do better?"
Anatomy & Physiology (Grades 6, 7 and 8)
A great review of reproductive systems, plus a discussion of the reproductive cycle and how pregnancy occurs.
Puberty (Grades 6 and 7)
This session provides an opportunity to examine (or be reminded of) the physical and emotional changes that occur during puberty — as well as the support systems available to youth as they grow and mature.
Delaying Sex (Grades 7 and 8)
Just what do we mean by abstinence? According to the research, it depends on who you ask. This session looks at the variety of reasons someone might choose to postpone sex (offered in a series with Birth Control/Sexual Protection, Sexually Transmitted Infections, and/or HIV/AIDS — see below).
Birth Control/Sexual Protection (Grades 8, 9/10, and 11/12)
An interactive presentation about preventive methods, myths around pregnancy prevention, services and sexual responsibility.
Sexually Transmitted Infections (Grades 7, 8, 9/10 and 11/12)
This presentation provides essential information about the prevention, transmission, symptoms and treatment of the most common STIs.
HIV/AIDS (Grades 6, 7, 8, 9/10 and 11/12)
Update on HIV disease, current issues and youth-specific information and resources; includes classroom activities.
Reproductive Rights (Grades 11/12)
A thought-provoking discussion about the abortion issue from a legal, historical and medical perspective.
