Florida Abortion Access for Minors - Parental Notification Information

If you are pregnant and age 17 and under, in order for you to have a legal abortion, Florida laws must be satisfied that one of your parents or legal guardian is notified that you are planning on having an abortion.  Please call your local clinic so they can advise you on your next steps.  The Parental Notice of Abortion Act, which became effective June 30, 2005 requires all minor females age 17 and under to undergo a process for securing a safe and legal abortion.

To download Parental Notification forms, click here.

PATH PROJECT:  If you are a teenager and thinking about having an abortion, we want you to know your rights.
If you are not able to tell your parent or guardian about your decision to have an abortion, you can apply for a waiver from this requirement through the courts.
You have a right to a lawyer to help you through the process.  There is no charge for the lawyer. The court procedure is free and confidential.
If you're under the age of 18 and plan to have an abortion, and want more information about this process or getting an attorney for no cost, call the ACLU PATH Project toll free helpline: (877) FLA-PATH or 877-352-7284.
Or go to their website at http://www.pathproject.net/

Back Up Your Birth Control with EC...Because Accidents Happen

Emergency Contraception, also known as Plan B or "the morning after pill," can prevent unintended pregnancy if taken within 5 days of unprotected sex. And the sooner you take it, the better. So if a condom breaks, you forget to use protection, you miss a couple of pills or if you were sexually assaulted, EC gives you a second chance to prevent an unplanned pregnancy.

Best of all, you can even get “EC to Go” at Planned Parenthood to stash in your medicine cabinet ahead of time... just in case. For further information on EC, call your nearest Planned Parenthood health center here.  Our friendly staff is professionally trained to give you the facts and answer your questions in total privacy. We're here to help.  For more information, read about "EC" here.

EC FACTS AT A GLANCE

  • Available now from Planned Parenthood in advance as a safe back up form of birth control
  • Up to 89% effective when used within 120 hours
