The Planned Parenthood Leadership Committee (PPLC) held its inaugural training session on Saturday, July 11 in Miami-Dade County. Thirty-five motivated women attended the grassroots organizing and messaging training. Attendees ranged from high school students to union members, medical students, college students, teachers, and direct-care providers.
During the all day training topics such as abortion access, contraception availability, and sex education were points of concentration, explored through interactive lectures, up-to-date statistics, and personal experiences of attendees. The emotions in the room shifted throughout the day from anger and disbelief over current policies in Florida to a passionate sense of motivation aimed at enacting necessary changes to protect women’s health.
The training session presented a great networking opportunity where attendees could learn from each other, develop new contacts, and form a sustainable future for their communities. With all of the provided skills, knowledge, and support, PPLC attendees will lead their own presentations this fall to educate and mobilize their communities.
The first Planned Parenthood Leadership Committee training session proved to be a huge success, re-energizing and renewing the spirits of the attendees. The conference not only empowered and motivated these women, but also gave them the resolve and resources to take action.
