Our Mission

Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast is a private, nonprofit health care agency incorporated in 1971.  Our affiliate was established in response to concerns about rising rates of teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. Our goals were, and remain, to provide affordable, compassionate reproductive health care services and to educate the community in all areas of responsible human sexuality.

The mission of Planned Parenthood of South Florida and Treasure Coast, Inc. is to provide comprehensive sexual health care through the provision of clinical services, education and advocacy. We do so by understanding and responding to the needs of those seeking our services, and by protecting and respecting the essential privacy rights, dignity and culture of each individual.

The three components of our mission are: medical services, educational programs and public affairs.

Medical Services
Our affiliate has grown from a small storefront office offering only pregnancy testing and counseling services to nine Health Centers serving eight counties.

In 2005, we provided 23,215 individual patients with more than 33,974 medical visits. Our clients include teenagers, young men and women, parents, families, and women in menopause. Our Health Centers are located in Kendall, Miami, North Miami, Pembroke Pines, Boca Raton, Lake Worth, West Palm Beach, Stuart, and Vero Beach. Please visit the "health services" section of this site to find out more about the services available near you.

Education Programs
Aware that teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections are complex problems demanding multifaceted intervention, Planned Parenthood offers a wide range of age-appropriate instructive programs. We also have public/private collaborations with targeted organizations that assist us in addressing issues of youth and human sexuality. Statistics show that comprehensive programs such as ours are highly effective.

One such program is Teen Time®, which provides a wide range of services for adolescents: free and low-cost reproductive health services, counseling, medically accurate sexuality education, after-school programs, and FactFone ("facts-of-life line").

Planned Parenthood has numerous other programs and partnerships, such as faith-based initiatives, Adult Role Models, Breast Health Education, and bilingual outreach programs for communities of color.

Public Affairs
Forming the third leg of our services is our public affairs initiative, which advocates for the protection of each individual's rights to privacy and access to family planning by monitoring local agencies, the state legislature, and Congress.

Among the advocacy activities we undertake are monitoring and following up on proposed legislation, educating elected officials, building local coalitions, activating grassroots networks, conducting voter-registration drives, and coordinating community activities to increase awareness.
