Here are the many ways you can volunteer at PPSNE:
Volunteers assist staff with projects at our administrative office in New Haven to support a wide variety of departments. You are able to set your own schedule during our regular office hours (8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.).
Health Center Volunteers
Our health centers provide affordable, high-quality reproductive health care services in a confidential and supportive environment. Volunteers help with front desk responsibilities, scanning Electronic Health Records, support our medical assistants, or volunteer in the recovery room.
Welcome Crew in New Haven/Escort Program in Rhode Island
These volunteers assist patients entering our health centers when protest activity is present. Since patients are sometimes approached by protestors when they arrive for their health care services, volunteers greet them in the parking areas to empower them and offer support.
Health Center Advocacy
Volunteers educate patients in the waiting rooms of our health centers and encourage them to voice their support for the reproductive health care issues. Volunteers distribute information, collect petition signatures, help patients register to vote, and discuss various ways to stay informed and get involved at the local level.
Volunteers help recruit for fundraising events. They host mini-parties, cocktail parties, coffee/tea parties or luncheons with ideally 10 or more friends. A PPSNE staff member attends these parties and presents on topics such as: What’s new in birth control?, Politics around Obamacare, Challenges to Planned Parenthood, Birds & the Bees Talk for Parents, Sex After 50.
PPSNE’s Young Professionals aim to give our supporters in the Greater New Haven area the opportunity to connect through social and community awareness events, attend Planned Parenthood-sponsored events, and potentially become active Planned Parenthood volunteers.
Volunteers raise awareness about reproductive justice through education and community action! These volunteers advocate for access to reproductive health and help build the reproductive rights movement. Actions may include writing letters to the editor, attending community health fairs with our staff, phone banking and canvassing. Volunteers may help with our youth programs such as STARS and Teen Clinic in New Haven. PP Action volunteers make a difference in their local community.
Campus Action Intern: College Students for Reproductive Choice
Are you a college student looking to get involved? Campus Action is the college internship program of PPSNE that trains students from colleges across Connecticut and Rhode Island on how to be effective advocates for reproductive justice on their campuses. Led by our Campus Action interns at 11 colleges and universities, our student supporters organize events and activities to advocate for and educate students about reproductive justice such as educational forums, rallies, movie nights, collecting signatures on petitions, lobbying elected officials in Hartford, Providence and Washington, DC, and conduct outreach at campus and community events.
Monthly Volunteer Night
If you have limited time to volunteer or just like to volunteer in the evenings, come to our Volunteer Nights, which occur on the third Wednesday of every month from 5:30-8:30 PM. It is a great way to meet and mingle with other volunteers while helping out with various projects such as mailings, phone banking, creating condom packs, and many other unique and diverse activities.
