Paying for Services

PPSFL has many payment options available for patients to receive high quality services regardless of income level, including no cost or low cost.

Payment Options

We accept cash, local checks, and credit cards (VISA, Mastercard, Discover).

We also have several special funds that may cover all or part of the cost of services such as abortion and colposcopy. We are committed to providing services at a cost you can afford. In return, we expect you to:
  • Be honest with us about your income and financial resources
  • Bring documentation of your income to your visit (at least one month's worth of pay stubs etc.)
  • Bring your insurance or Medicaid card with you at every visit
  • Pay as much as you can at the time of service
  • Follow through on your agreement to pay in a timely manner
  • Let us know if your financial situation has changed

What If I Don't Have Health Insurance?

There are many programs that our clients use to help pay for their services.

Family Planning (FPBP)
Clients with an income that is less than 200% of the federal poverty level may qualify for the state's funding program, the Family Planning Benefit Program (FPBP). Applications are available in our clinics and we will assist you in completing them. Eligible women may receive a birth control method plus routine annual exams and Pap tests. Men can receive condoms and birth control counseling. Both tubal ligation and vasectomy are also covered for those seeking permanent sterilization.

Medicaid
Medicaid will pay for most of our services, including birth control, pregnancy testing, and abortion. Staff will verify what services are covered by your Medicaid. Some pregnant clients not previously eligible for Medicaid may be able to get coverage for their pregnancy immediately through 'Presumptive Eligibility'. Presumptive Eligibility only lasts 45 days, so further work with the Department of Social Services is necessary if you need extended coverage for you and your child.

Extended Medicaid
Extended Medicaid will pay for all family planning services and supplies for any woman who had full Medicaid at the time her last pregnancy ended. The eligibility is good for 26 months from the date the pregnancy ended.

Tompkins County STI Screening Program
Tompkins County residents may be eligible for free STD testing and treatment at the Ithaca clinic through our contract with the Tompkins County Health Department. This program is available to those residents who do not have Medicaid or other health insurance (or who can not use their insurance for reasons of confidentiality).

Sliding Fee Scale
Clients whose family income is below 250% of the federal poverty level may be eligible for family planning services at a reduced fee. If your income is below 100% of the federal poverty level, you may be eligible for free services.
