We Understand the Need for Protecting Your Privacy
In New York State, teens are allowed to seek birth control services without their parents’ involvement. We do encourage you to discuss your health care concerns with your parents or another trusted adult, but you can give your own consent for the care you receive at our clinics.

Question: What do I have to do to use birth control pills or other prescription methods?
Answer: First you'll have to make an appointment for a medical visit to make sure that the method you choose is safe for YOU. We will need to take a medical history and do some lab tests (blood pressure, urine test, test for anemia) and do a routine physical including a pelvic exam.
Question: Do I have to have a pelvic exam? Will it hurt?
Answer: Pelvic exams and Pap tests are not supposed to hurt and are a very important part of staying healthy for women. If the clinicians feel it is safe, and it is important to you, it may be possible to start your pills and have the exam later. At Planned Parenthood you will have plenty of opportunity to talk with us about worries or questions you may have. And don't be embarrassed. Our clinicians do many exams every day and can help you relax.
Question: What if I don't want my parents to know I've been to Planned Parenthood?
Answer: We never give out the name of anyone who uses our services. However, we do try to help you find a way to talk with your parents about tough issues like relationships and sex. Many teens find that their parents are more understanding than they expect.
Question: I don't have much money, can I afford to come to Planned Parenthood?
Answer: We use a sliding fee scale based on how much money and support you have. Some services are free, and no one is turned away due to lack of money. If you are concerned about cost, please feel free to call us at 800-230-7526.
Question: I am not sure if I'm ready for sex and I have lots of questions I am too embarrassed to ask my parents... Is there someone I can talk to at Planned Parenthood?
Answer: Just give us a call. We will answer your questions and try to listen and help you through your decisions. Understanding all the pros and cons and consequences of sexual relationships is very important to your health and your future. Resources are available about abstinence, healthy relationships, sexuality and the prevention of pregnancy and STD's.
Question: What about sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS?
Answer: Whether you need information on safer sex or are worried about having an infection, Planned Parenthood can answer your questions and offer confidential STD and HIV testing, and treatment for most sexually transmitted diseases.
Question: Can my boyfriend come to Planned Parenthood?
Answer: Planned Parenthood encourages both young men and young women to learn how to take care of themselves and stay healthy. We offer medical services for men too. Have him call for more information.
Question: Can you help me if I think I am pregnant?
Answer: Yes. You can make an appointment for just a test (no exam) to see whether or not you are pregnant. You will talk with someone about what YOU want to do - no one will lecture you or try to tell you what to do.
Question: When are you open?
Answer: Planned Parenthood is open Monday through Friday and some Saturdays with appointments available to fit a variety of schedules (mornings, afternoons, and some evenings).
