When you get involved locally, you help strengthen the call for affordable sexual healthcare and abortion rights for all Americans. Through your letters, emails and phone calls to your government representatives — local, state and federal — you send the message that these issues matter to the majority of citizens.
Volunteers also help make Planned Parenthood a stronger organization. Volunteers help us accomplish many tasks throughout the agency and help us serve our clients better. For more information on volunteering at Planned Parenthood of South Central Michigan, click on the volunteer link on the left.
Ways to Advocate
Personal letters and phone calls are two of the most effective ways to lobby your legislators. Find yours on the Michigan Legislature site.
Hundreds of bills dealing with reproductive rights issues are introduced in the U.S. House and Senate during each term. MOST of them seek to restrict, deny or vilify abortion and birth control. Read them for yourself! Visit Thomas and enter "abortion" in the word/phrase box.
The assault on choice is even greater in Michigan. Learn more by visiting the Michigan version of Thomas by following this link.
VOTE! It's the most important thing you can do to keep abortion safe and legal. For non-partisan voter information, visit www.publius.org
The League of Women Voters have excellent pages for contact information on all government representatives. Also, check out their letter writing guide for media contacts and more.
