Background: On November 7th, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a historic health care reform bill. Unfortunately, the House adopted the Stupak ban, which, if enacted, would ban private abortion coverage for women in northern New England—and across the United States. On December 8th the Senate defeated the Nelson/Hatch amendment, the Senate's version of the Stupak ban. But a new provision demanded by Sen. Nelson would impose administrative burdens on women who purchase abortion coverage in the new system and plans that offer it.
