What makes a training valuable or helpful? Why do some trainers stand out in our minds? What trainings inspire us to incorporate new insights and activities into our work? And...how can you offer a dynamic training that addresses the needs of your participants?
These questions come up for many people working in the world of education of training, and Catriona McHardy, PPNNE VP of Education & Training, and Educator/Trainer Katherine McLaughlin, offer this concentrated workshop to get you on your way to providing that memorable training.
This three-day workshop is a combination of two trainings: our Train the Trainer I: Training Skills and our Train the Trainer II: Advanced Training Skills. The first day we'll address the components of a good training, including developing a training design; presentation techniques; creating an open and secure learning environment; and assessing one's own training style and skills. The last two days will focus on revisiting and practicing the presentation and processing skills that can take a good training design and turn it into a great training experience. We will explore group dynamics, how to deal with difficult participants and examine, in depth, those skills that help participants in your trainings deepen their learning and increase their competence. You will have the opportunity to practice and get feedback from your peers as well as time to bring up challenges you have faced in your training experiences.
PARTICIPANTS WILL:
- Understand how adults learn, group dynamics, the role of the trainer and how these impact a training.
- Identify the different components of a training design and presentation and how each piece plays a critical role in providing a good training.
- Recognize and use strategies to manage different types of participants. Know how to create dynamic and relevant activities for their participants.
This training has been created to help human service professionals, health educators, HIV/AIDS educators, and other who want to increase their training skills regardless of their field. This training is suggested for people who want to develop and implement a professional training, who want the opportunity to focus on training skills rather than workshop content, or who are new to the field and want to become that memorable trainer.
