Talk to My Parents?

We can hear it now: "Talk to my parents about sex? Are you out of your mind?"

Actually, no, we aren't. Believe it or not, your parents are people, too. And most parents would love to talk to their kids about anything, but especially about sex. They just don't know where to begin - and they aren't sure how you'll react.

So here are some tips to help you keep the lines of communication open with your parents:

     • Tell them about what's going on in your life. Ask them what's going on in their life.
     • Share your feelings. Had a bad day? Good day? Chances are you'll find a sympathetic ear.
     • Ask questions about their opinions and values.
     • Hear what they say. Even if you don't always agree, just listen- and they may listen in return.

Whether you're talking about relationships, sex, or any other topic, you can gain your parents' trust and respect by showing you are responsible and mature enough to discuss important issues with them.
