Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington (PPMW) was founded in 1936, and opened its second facility when Ophelia Settle Egypt started a birth control clinic east of the Anacostia River in 1957. Today, we remain dedicated to providing essential family planning services and community education programs targeted to low-income and uninsured women, men and teens. We provide comprehensive reproductive health care to more than 25,000 patients annually in our five clinics.

Our primary goal is to ensure that race, poverty, age, cultural differences, and language barriers do not prevent any Metropolitan resident from accessing basic, critical reproductive health care services. Through our advocacy programs, we work closely with local, state, and national legislators to prevent unintended pregnancies and ensure that women and men have access to birth control and accurate information about their health.
