Teen Councils
Teen Council, the Planned Parenthood peer education program, utilizes the passion and skills of more than 150 young people each school year to disseminate sexuality information and empower youth to make smart choices about sex. Teen Council members are trained by our education staff at weekly meetings where they learn about sexual health and how to deliver accurate, appropriate and engaging educational presentations to middle and high school classes. Many Teen Councils also use interactive theatre to teach and problem-solve with their peers.

What do Teen Council members do?

  • Learn the importance of accurate information and how to answer any question peers may ask.
  • Learn how to dialogue with people with opinions different from theirs, and about a wide range of issues related to sexuality
  • Give presentations and assemblies in middle and high school classrooms
  • Assist in facilitating family programs
  • Represent Planned Parenthood at community events
  • Write a column for teen page in newspaper (Olympia)
  • Take part in AIDS Walks
  • Participate in Teen Lobby Day in collaboration with our Public Affairs department, where they receive training about current issues and effective advocacy, then visit their legislators.
