Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest. Volunteers are an important part of our organization and are vital to our efforts to meet the growing demand for services. Last year, more than 1,000 dedicated volunteers and interns supported clinical services, education, and advocacy programs in our community. Below is a brief description of the many types of opportunities we have to offer. We hope you will consider joining PPGNW and giving the gift of time.
Volunteer Program Assistants complete projects at our administrative offices in Anchorage, Boise, and Seattle to support a wide variety of departments. You are able to set your own schedule during office hours.
Our health centers provide affordable, high-quality reproductive health care services in a confidential and supportive environment. As a Clinic Assistant, you can help by completing clerical projects such as data entry, filing, assembling patient packets, and photocopying. Patient Escorts assist patients entering our health centers when protest activity is present.
The education department has many different programs to provide medically-accurate sexuality education to members of our community. You can make a difference by conducting puberty workshops as a Family Night Facilitator.
- Youth in the Know
Specifically for teens in Alaska and Idaho, Youth in the Know provides an opportunity to receive accurate sex education information and encourages students to engage in ongoing learning through weekly social meetings and community service work.
- Teen Council
Teen Council, the western Washington peer education program, utilizes the passion and skills of more than 150 young people each school year to disseminate sexuality information and empower youth to make smart choices about sex. Teen Council members are trained by our education staff at weekly meetings where they learn about sexual health and how to deliver accurate, appropriate and engaging educational presentations to middle and high school classes. Many Teen Councils also use interactive theatre to teach and problem-solve with their peers.
Vox: Voices of Planned Parenthood
Are you a college student looking to get involved? Vox: Voices for Planned Parenthood is a program designed to educate and mobilize students and youth in support of reproductive health and rights. Vox groups across our region organize public events, educate their peers, support their local Planned Parenthood health centers, and mobilize students and other young people to speak out for reproductive rights and access to reproductive health services. Vox is a fun and exciting way to meet people, gain knowledge and skills, and make a difference.
PP Action League
You can raise awareness about reproductive rights through education and community action! Join the Action League, a group of volunteers who advocate for access to reproductive health and help build the reproductive rights movement. Action League members write letters to the editor, conduct community outreach, make phone calls, knock on doors, lobby elected officials, train citizen lobbyists, and participate in visibility events. Most importantly, Action League volunteers make a difference in their local community.
If you're between 21 and 40 years of age and want to contribute some of your time and talent, then Young Professionals is for you. This group was started by several volunteers who wanted to support PPGNW, by planning special events for younger adults. This is one of the most popular and fastest growing support groups.
Religious Leaders for Choice
Religious Leaders for Choice is a new activist group in the Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest community. We are excited to build an organization of religious leaders who support women and men’s access to both comprehensive family planning and sexual health education. We are currently taking the first steps to create this organization.
