Project Pharmacy
What is Project Pharmacy?
Project Pharmacy is a campaign working to assure access and availability of emergency contraception from pharmacies in Iowa. The campaign includes education initiatives to better inform the public, pharmacists and physicians about Emergency Contraception.
Project Pharmacy has many elements, all of which are accessible on the web page:
- Results of a pharmacy survey conducted by Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa. This survey has a “thumbs up” and “thumbs down” coding system, allowing individuals to search for their local pharmacy and find out whether or not pharmacists at that location will dispense emergency contraception.
- Consumer tips on how to be an effective self advocate when attempting to access emergency contraception.
- Information on how to get involved in the ongoing the survey process.
- Of pharmacies reached during the survey, only 58 percent actually stock Emergency Contraception.
For more information on survey results, please visit the Project Pharmacy website. Project Pharmacy partners include the Emma Goldman Clinic, NOW chapters in Des Moines and Iowa City, the University of Iowa’s Law Students for Choice, and Iowa Planned Parenthood Affiliates League (PP of East Central Iowa, PP of Greater Iowa, PP of Nebraska/Council Bluffs and PP of Southeast Iowa). The methodology and execution of the survey was facilitated and managed by Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa.
