The Mobile Outreach Unit began in March of 2001 as a collaborative project between Planned Parenthood of Buffalo & Erie County and Planned Parenthood of Niagara County. Now, as a merged entity, Planned Parenthood of Western New York continues to provide reproductive health care services and education via the Mobile Outreach Unit.
The mission of the Mobile Outreach Unit is to provide clinical and educational services to under-served populations and neighborhoods. Specifically, the Mobile Outreach Unit focuses on serving those with no or low income, the underinsured, individuals with limited or no access to health care, populations involved in high risk behaviors, and those who would not seek services under other circumstances.
The Mobile Outreach Unit has historically partnered with transitional housing programs (shelters), soup kitchens, food pantries, drug and alcohol treatment centers, residential treatment facilities, programs for adolescents, and community-based agencies. The Mobile Outreach Unit also participates in many community events and health fairs. By establishing partnerships with trusted community organizations, the Mobile Outreach Unit reaches those most in need of services and avoids duplication of services.
