Protect Funding for Vital Women’s Health Care Services: Why Planned Parenthood Says Vote YES on Measures 66 & 67:

During Economic Hard Times, Women Need Planned Parenthood
Decisions that women and their families make about family planning take on special meaning during times of economic turbulence. Women who are financially worse off are more likely to need to delay pregnancy or limit the number of children they have because of the economy. In addition, women are delaying a gynecological or contraceptive visit because of financial concerns. Too many women can’t afford birth control, and too few families have adequate health insurance coverage.

Family Planning & Other State-Funded Services At Stake
As the state of Oregon struggles with an unprecedented economic downturn, more women are turning to state-funded health centers to meet their basic health care needs. However, Oregon’s funding for these essential women’s health services is at risk. If we do not raise additional revenue, health care, human services and other critical services like education and public safety will be severely cut. These cuts will leave our women and their families vulnerable— we must protect Oregonians who have been hit the hardest.

Protect Vital Services & Support Measures 66 & 67
Measures 66 & 67 will bring $700 million in the necessary funds to maintain these services.  At the end of the day, if these measures do not pass, the Oregon legislature will be forced to make $1 billion in additional cuts in critical services, which could include reproductive health care services. Contrary to what opponents of Measures 66 & 67 are saying, there are no reserves to cover this shortfall. These cuts will leave even more people without access to vital health care and will lead to increased health care costs for the state.
