Volunteers are an important part of Planned Parenthood. Their support makes it possible for us to meet the growing need for health services in our community. In 2008, almost 800 volunteers and interns donated more than 15,000 hours supporting our health centers, special events, fundraising efforts, advocacy and community outreach, and education programs.
There are many ways you can volunteer for Planned Parenthood. Below is a brief description of the many types of opportunities we have to offer. Not all positions are available at all times. We hope you’ll consider joining our team of dedicated volunteers and giving the gift of time.

Types of volunteer opportunites at Planned Parenthood:
Administration
Assist with a variety of projects at our administration offices in NE and SE Portland to support a variety of departments including Development, Marketing, Education and Human Resources. Projects are available during most office hours, so you're able to choose your own schedule.
Volunteer Work Party
Every 4-6 weeks, volunteers gather at the NE Portland administrative office to socialize and complete projects for our health centers and administrative departments. This is a fun and interactive way to volunteer – and open to volunteers of all ages!
Clinical Services/Health Centers
Our health centers provide affordable, confidential, high-quality sexual and reproductive health care services to more than 60,000 patients each year.
- As a Health Center Assistant, you can help by providing general clerical support such as filing, assembling patient information packets, and preparing new patient charts.
- As a Patient Support Volunteer, following classroom and in-clinic training, you can provide hands-on support to and monitoring of women in the surgical room during their abortion procedure.
- As a Patient Liaison Volunteer – Medical Interpreter (Spanish) you can provide transparent communication/ medical interpretation between patient and provider during various reproductive and sexual health care visits.
Legislative Action Volunteer
Join a group of leading activists within targeted legislative districts, in Oregon and SW Washington, that work to build an aggressive grassroots movement focused on women’s reproductive health care issues, comprehensive sexuality education, and access to abortion. Legislative Action Volunteers meet monthly in the evenings and also write letters to the editor, conduct community outreach and canvassing, make phone calls, train citizen lobbyists and participate in a variety of visibility events.
Fundraising and Special Events
You can volunteer at a number of special events throughout the Portland Metro area and in Central Oregon by providing support through guest registration, selling pro-choice merchandise, assisting with silent auctions, and providing other event support. On occasion, due to event venue, volunteers must be at least 21 years of age.
Vox: Voices for Planned Parenthood
Are you a college student looking to get involved? Want to be a leader on your campus? Vox: Voices for Planned Parenthood is a program designed to educate and mobilize students in support of reproductive health and rights. Vox groups across Oregon organize public events, mobilize students to speak out for reproductive rights and access to sexual and reproductive health services, educate their peers, and support their local Planned Parenthood affiliate. Vox is a fun and exciting way to meet people, gain knowledge and skills, engage in activist events, and make a difference.
