Professional Development
PPCW's Education and Training Department provides professional training for staff and group leaders on a variety of topics. Our skilled and professional education staff is also happy to create a presentation that will meet your staff's training needs. Our trainings reflect the latest research in public health and effective work with adolescents.
- Professional Training Series Provided by Planned Parenthood of the Columbia Willamette and the Multnomah Network on Teen Pregnancy and Young Parenting, these monthly trainings are for individuals who work with young people and are interested in increasing communication skills in issues related to sexuality. Health educators, case managers, caregivers, home visitors, teachers, and others working directly with adolescents and families may find this information valuable.
- Culturally Competent Health Care, an informative workshop about providing health care to many diverse populations that is culturally competent.
- Delivering Positive and Effective Sexuality Messages to Young People, Participants will be engaged discussion, and activities that facilitate exploration of their own values and methods for giving young people positive messages about sexuality and sexual health. This training also includes an opportunity to examine how we can create services for males that are strength based and respectful of the contributions they can make to pregnancy prevention and healthy relationships.
- Comprehensive HIV Education, an in-depth training for professionals covering trends, transmission, attitudes, risk reduction, counseling and testing.
- Peer Programs 101, the nuts and bolts of creating and implementing peer based educational programs.
- Youth Development 101, a basic primer on the principles of youth development and effective youth-adult partnerships
- Basic Principles of Harm Reduction, an introduction to the history and benefits of using a harm reduction framework to help clients and patients create more healthful practices.
- How to Design an Effective Training, a training for professionals about how to design and implement an effective training.
- Teaching Contraception 101, a training to provide educators in the community with the knowledge and tools they need to do their very own workshop about contraception for their class or group.
These trainings can be provided at your workplace or ours and typically last 3 hours. We are more than happy to work with you in order to tailor our trainings to best fit the needs of your staff.
Our fee for trainings is $75.00 per hour. We can offer trainings for a reduced fee to a limited number of agencies.
