Roe Has a New Ally in Bucks County
Planned Parenthood Association of Bucks County (PPABC) is proud to announce on the 37th Roe Anniversary that Kate Rosset has been named President and Chief Executive Officer.
Kate brings years of Planned Parenthood experience to PPABC, which began as a clinic volunteer in 1978 with an affiliate in Northeast Pennsylvania. As with many volunteers, she was hired as staff and in 1984 she became an Executive Director of a northeastern Planned Parenthood affiliate. When her affiliate merged in 1987, Kate became Vice President for Program Services, managing medical (for 22,000 unduplicated clients), education and volunteer services for eight counties.
Kate has also served as the first chair of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) National Patient Services Council. Since 1996 Kate has been a practice management consultant, trainer, manager and director with PPFA. She has presented workshops and trainings to many affiliate staffs and boards. Kate is ready to apply her extensive knowledge to PPABC in order to allow the agency to maintain and expand in the coming years.
However, Kate and other pro-choice supporters are concerned about the recent attacks on a woman’s right to choose. On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court ruled that the right to privacy in the U.S. Constitution protects the right of a woman to choose whether to continue a pregnancy to term or to have an abortion. We now face the remarkable possibility that the U.S. Congress will enact health care reform legislation that singles-out abortion, from all other medical procedures, with unprecedented and unnecessary restrictions with a middle class abortion ban.
Regardless of the outcome of health care reform, Bucks County still has reason to celebrate the 37th Roe Anniversary because PPABC will continue to provide quality, comprehensive reproductive health and educational services for the women, men and youth of Bucks County, under the leadership of Kate Rosset.
