Our History

Planned Parenthood Association of Bucks County, the only family planning agency in Bucks County, was established in 1964 as an educational affiliate of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the nation’s oldest and largest family planning organization. By 1967 the first medical office was opened in Bristol, which remains our largest medical office.

Our Education and Training Department provides comprehensive sexuality education to youth in many settings throughout our community. The staff also provide training and seminars to teachers, clergy, allied professionals and youth workers. The Education Department places an emphasis on working with young people to build self-esteem and promote responsible decision-making about sexuality. Our Resource Center, which houses current information and resources on sexual health, includes: films and videos, pamphlets, books, teaching aids, sexuality education curricula, safer sex supplies and journals and reports. The Education Department also manages The Rainbow Room, a weekly program that provides support, education and advocacy for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and questioning youth and their allies (LGBTQA).  The department also runs an after-school program for young women, Girlfriends Club, with a focus on sexuality education, that help at-risk youth to develop life skills and positive self-esteem. Education Staff also provide information and safer sex supplies at community events such as health fairs and community days.

Our Public Affairs Department promotes access to reproductive health care and advocates for reproductive rights. We strive to educate our community and our elected officials about our agency’s services and related issues. The staff and volunteers work closely with other agencies and coalitions, at local, state and national levels. In addition, the Public Affairs Department coordinates our relationship with our Global Partners in Kenya, known as K-MET.

Currently we provide care to over 15,000 women, men and teens each year and have five health centers throughout the county.
