At Planned Parenthood of Bucks County we are committed to providing confidential, safe, affordable first-trimester abortion services to women in Bucks County.
About Abortion
Abortion ends a pregnancy before birth. Sometimes abortion occurs naturally when an embryo or fetus stops developing and the body expels it. This is called a spontaneous abortion or miscarriage. A woman can also choose to end a pregnancy, which is called induced abortion. There are three ways to induce – with medicine, vacuum aspiration, or surgery. Abortion is a safe option for women who choose to end a pregnancy.

Types of Abortion Services
Planned Parenthood of Bucks County offers both medication abortions and surgical abortions. Medication abortion or the “abortion pill” is a popular name for a medicine called mifepristone (brand name: Mifeprex). It ends the pregnancy by preventing your body from producing the hormone progesterone. Click for more detailed information on medication abortion.
A surgical abortion (also known as a D & C or an in-clinic suction abortion) uses suction to take out the contents and lining of your uterus to end your pregnancy. The way the abortion is done depends on how long you have been pregnant. Click for more detailed information on surgical abortion.
Pennsylvania Abortion Control Act
If you are under the age of 18 and want to have an abortion in Pennsylvania you must have the consent of one of your parents or have completed a judicial bypass if you do not want to or cannot obtain parental consent. Some young women decide that they cannot tell their parents about their pregnancy. Other young women’s parents may not want to sign the consent form for their daughter to obtain an abortion. For those who do not want to or cannot obtain parental consent, you must go through a judicial bypass, which is an anonymous appearance before a judge to obtain an order allowing the abortion.
For more detailed information on the judicial bypass, please visit the Women’s Law Project Web site.
