Real Life. Real Talk.®
Real Life. Real Talk. is a bold social change effort that aims to positively change the social climate in communities by creating more open, honest, and balanced talk about sex and health. It is supported by a broad coalition of community organizations from across the political spectrum that have come together to support parents as they strive to raise sexually healthy kids in today’s sex-saturated culture.
Planned Parenthood Arizona is proud to be a partner involved in implementing Real Life. Real Talk. in Tucson. Other local partners include local and community public health organizations, faith organizations, schools, civic leaders, and social service organizations that have come together to do something we all think is necessary: reframe sexuality as a component of healthy relationships, instead of as a commodity, the way it is often promoted in popular media. Over time, a more positive social climate will help to ensure that people — particularly young people — have adequate information and services to enable them to make healthy sexual choices.
Sex Ed for Parentssm Sex Ed for Parents is a 90-minute crash course in teen realities for the most influential adult in your teen’s life — you! The course is designed to equip parents with the information they need to help their teens navigate the often confusing realms of romance, relationships, and sexuality.
It is unlikely your parents sought the information to be able to offer you the same support. But the world has changed. Teens interact at lightening speed from anywhere at any time. Marketing messages bombard them. Unhealthy sexual images surround them. Marketers use the latest in adolescent brain research to find new ways to manipulate teen consumers. When it comes to getting their own children’s attention, today’s parents face competition their own parents could never have imagined.
The event provides parents with useful information about teen development, teen realities, and parenting strategies for guiding a teen’s sexual maturity in a fast-paced, confused, and sex-saturated culture.
