Generation S.E.E.: Sexuality Education for Everyone is a community-based sexual health education program designed to support the development of healthy sexual attitudes and behaviors in students 12-18 years of age in collaboration with their parents and teachers.

Topics covered include

  • puberty
  • pregnancy and behaviors that lead to pregnancy
  • birth control
  • sexually transmitted infections
  • communication and risk reduction
  • dating
  • healthy relationships
  • sex messages

Generation S.E.E. has been taught at many organizations and schools including:

  • Florence Crittenton Youth Academy
  • Golden Gate Community Center
  • Estrella High School
  • YMCA’s i-learn program
  • Northern Arizona University
  • Coconino Community College

Generation S.E.E. differs in its approach from other sexuality education curriculums in several ways.

Community
The goal of Generation S.E.E. is to facilitate a more open, honest dialogue about healthy sexual attitudes and behaviors among parents, students, teachers, youth-care workers, school counselors, peers and partners. By building and teaching a "community" of people, rather than focusing on students alone, Generation S.E.E. creates a support system for young people where sexuality is understood to be an aspect of our human experience that deserves to thrive in an environment of respect, openness, and mutuality.

Authentic Communication
A primary aim of former Surgeon General Dr. David Satcher's Call To Action is "to stimulate respectful, thoughtful, and mature discussion in our communities and in our homes" with regard to sex and sex education. The goal of Generation S.E.E. is authentic, honest communication and a healthy climate for information sharing, definition of family values and goal setting.

Positive Messages
Generation S.E.E. de-stigmatizes sex and recognizes that sexuality is an essential lifelong aspect of being human. Focusing on the many positive components of human sexuality (relationships, love, care, responsibility), Generation S.E.E. helps participants find a healthy middle ground between hyper-sexualized images in the media and the climate of secrecy and shame surrounding sex and sex education.

Standards Based
The design of Generation S.E.E. is based on the United States Department of Education Standards for Health Education, the State of Arizona Comprehensive Health Education Standards, the Guidelines for Comprehensive Sexuality Education created by the National Guidelines Task Force, and the 10 Characteristics of Effective Sex and HIV Education Programs by Dr. Douglas Kirby of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.
