Professional Training

4 sessions/2 hours in length each

Content

Session 1
 • pre test
 • course rationale and subject matter for Youth Sexuality Education
 • reproductive anatomy

Session 2

 • puberty and adolescent markers
 • pregnancy and behaviors that can lead to pregnancy
 • birth control methods: comparison of methods (including abstinence), effectiveness rates (theoretical and actual), community resources

Session 3

 • sexually transmitted infections (STIs): symptoms, treatments, community resources, risk factors
 • communication Skills
 • risk Reduction/reducing adolescent pregnancy, parenting and STIs

Session 4

 • dating norms and safety issues for teens
 • health relationships: traits of relationships as healthy or unhealthy
 • activities and teaching strategies for Youth Sexuality Education program messages
 • resources for Sexuality Education Information
 • post test

For Youth (Level 2 - 12-15 years of age)

Youth Sexuality Education

8 sessions/1-1.5 hours in length each

Session 1

  • sexual attitudes, media messages, techniques & strategies for effective communication around the topic of sex
  • pre test

Session 2

  • reproductive anatomy

Session 3

  • pregnancy and behaviors that can lead to pregnancy

Session 5

  • birth control methods: comparison of methods (including abstinence), effectiveness rates (theoretical and actual), and the advantages of delaying intercourse until maturity

Session 6

  • sexually transmitted infections: symptoms, treatments, community resources, risk factors

Session 7

  • communication and risk reduction

Session 8

  • healthy relationships: traits of relationships as healthy or unhealthy

For Youth (Level 3 - 14-18 years of age)

Youth Sexuality Education

Session 2

  • reproductive anatomy

Session 3

  • pregnancy and behaviors that can lead to pregnancy

Session 4

  • birth control methods: comparison of methods (including abstinence), effectiveness rates (theoretical and actual), and the advantages of delaying intercourse until maturity.

Session 5

  • sexually transmitted diseases: symptoms, treatments, community resources, risk factors

Session 6

  • communication and risk reduction: body language, negotiation skills, open communication with partner

Session 7

  • healthy relationships: traits of relationships as healthy or unhealthy, discussion of unhealthy relationships and cycle of violence, qualities in ideal relationships

Session 8

  • dating: teen dating norms and safety, signs of an unhealthy relationship
  • post test
