The 2007 Public Affairs Dinner was a sold-out success raising over $300,000 for Planned Parenthood of the Texas Capital Region.  This event supports the operation of Planned Parenthood’s three clinics in Austin Texas. Proceeds from this event make it possible for Planned Parenthood to serve over 26,000 uninsured women and men in our community annually.

Generations of supporters and leaders of the reproductive rights movement attended this event at the beautiful Renaissance Austin Hotel. This year’s dinner payed tribute to former Texas Governor and Planned Parenthood supporter, Ann Richards while honoring the legendary Sarah Weddington. Master of Ceremonies was Evan Smith, the Editor of Texas Monthly. The exciting live auction that included vacation spots, fine art, and private concerts with internationally known performers and raised close to $50,000 alone.

This year we were delighted to have Key Note Speaker: Cecile Richards. As the president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, she is a leader in national progressive politics with more than 20 years of experience working on behalf of reproductive freedom and social justice. Cecile founded and served as president of Pro-Choice Vote in the 2000 election cycle, and serves on the board of several national organizations, including NARAL Pro-Choice America.
