As your constituent, I am very disappointed in your vote against family planning funding. Your anti-family planning vote in support of Rep. Mike Pence's amendment to the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education appropriation bill (H.R. 3043) will not help reduce the number of unintended pregnancies through common sense prevention measures such as access to contraception.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America is the nation’s leading advocate and provider of reproductive health care and sex education, serving more than 5 million patients in our 858 health centers across 49 states. In Austin, Planned Parenthood's 3 nonprofit clinics provide valuable education, counseling, and preventive health care to more than 26,000 clients in Central Texas each year.

The nation's family planning program, Title X (ten), is the first and only federal program that created a nationwide network of family planning clinics, established standards for delivering high-quality, low-cost family planning services, and helped millions of women plan their families, prevent unintended pregnancies, and receive desperately needed reproductive health care.

With Title X funding, Planned Parenthood clinics are able to provide a broad package of preventive health care services that includes pap tests and breast exams, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and screening for anemia, high blood pressure, and diabetes. As a Title X grantee Planned Parenthood plays a vital role in providing low income, uninsured and underinsured women with preventive health care services and is a critical safety-net provider to the health care system in Central Texas.  Additionally, Planned Parenthood is well-known and respected in your district as a strong advocate for women’s health. 

Please let me know if you will support family planning and Planned Parenthood in future votes. As your constituent, I strongly support expanding access to family planning services.
