Why: Because everyone who is sexually active should get tested!
Peer educators from What Would You Do-BeMe will be assisting with a three-on-three basketball tournament that’s free and open to the public. Everyone who gets tested for HIV will get a coupon for concessions or a free chair massage provided by LSI Medispa! The rapid HIV test is quick, painless and results are available in just about 20 minutes.
Although it contains less than 15 percent of Tennessee's population, Shelby County accounts for nearly 40 percent of the 14,000-plus HIV/AIDS cases statewide. Up to one quarter of the people who are HIV-positive in the United States do not know they have the virus that causes AIDS. Getting tested is the best way to protect yourself, your health and the ones you love.
Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region offers free rapid HIV testing for men and women every day at its health center at 1407 Union Avenue. In addition to free confidential testing, PPGMR also provides HIV counseling and resources and information to help men and women protect their health and the health of their partners. No appointment is ever needed for HIV testing at PPGMR’s health center. For more information, go to ppgmr.org.
