These testing sites are open to the public. Anyone who is or has been sexually active is encouraged to be tested. More than 5,800 people in Memphis and Shelby County are living with HIV/AIDS. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that as many as one in every 5 people with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, do not know they have the virus.
The test is painless, administered with a simple mouth swab, and results are available in about 30 minutes.
Outreach testing events like these are part of PPGMR’s HIV testing and prevention counseling program. PPGMR employs three health educators who are certified as HIV prevention counseling and testing TN Master Trainers.
