We are proud to offer Transgender Hormone Therapy and Preventive Health Services.
Our goal is to provide quality, compassionate, and informed care for our transgender patients. We serve transgender people, genderqueer people, and people at various places on the spectrum of gender identity and expression. We are committed to improving the way transgender and genderqueer people receive health care in our region and we proudly work together with our transgender community to lead the way in eliminating barriers to care. Planned Parenthood provides supportive and sensitive care regardless of gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, age, religion, or socio-economic status.
Providing Transgender Hormone Therapy is a relatively new service at Planned Parenthood’s Ithaca Health Center; please let us know how we’re doing! We invite your feedback on things that are going well, and if you have any suggestions or ideas to improve our service! You can share your feedback directly with your provider or e-mail us.
How do I get hormones from Planned Parenthood?
You will need to make an appointment and meet with one of our medical providers. To set up an initial phone intake appointment with a provider please call our Ithaca Health Center at 607.273.1513 and let them know you would like a “consultation for transgender hormones.” Our provider will call you back and get you started with the in-take process!
At your appointment you will need to fill out intake paperwork and you will meet your provider to learn about our services for trans people and the specific steps we take to provide hormones. At your initial appointment you also will be required to sign a specific informed consent for hormone therapy.
If you are transferring ongoing hormone treatment from another care provider, please bring a copy of those records with you or arrange to have a copy of your records sent to our Ithaca Health Center prior to your visit. If records will be mailed, they can be sent to: PPSFL, 620 West Seneca Street, Ithaca, NY 14850.
Payment, Billing, and Insurance
This is a fee for service program. We will work with you to bill your insurance if you wish. We are committed to keeping the cost of our services as affordable as possible; if you are not able to pay we may be able to work with you on a payment plan or explore other options. We have assigned a specific billing staff member to work with patients in this program and you’ll have an opportunity to talk with her regarding any billing questions you may have.
Can I get my name changed on my medical chart?
On your intake paperwork we ask for your preferred name, please let us know that and we will call you by that name. However, the official medical and insurance paperwork does need to match the name listed on your health insurance. Please let us know if you change the name on your health insurance and bring in your new card to have it copied, placed into your chart, and then we can update your medical records.
Regardless of legal documentation of court ordered name change, until your health insurance coverage is listed in your new name, your medical records at Planned Parenthood cannot be officially changed. This is to protect you from having bills for your care denied.
Once I am a patient, how do I get a letter for surgery or document changes?
Depending on your situation and what documentation you need, the assistance we can provide may vary. Please discuss your needs with your provider at your appointment regarding letters for surgical referrals or for changes to documentation.
