Abortion Care
New Abortion Restrictions:
The Florida Supreme Court upheld the state's 15-week abortion ban, leading the 6-week ban to take effect in 30 days. Starting May 1 – you will no longer have access to abortion care in Florida if you are more than 6 weeks pregnant. The law does provide exceptions for fatal fetal diagnosis, to save the life of the mother, or for victims of rape, incest or human trafficking (with proper documentation). Planned Parenthood of South, East and North Florida will continue to provide abortion care up to 15 weeks of pregnancy until the new law is in effect. Our Patient Navigators will continue to assist patients seeking care when the 6-week ban takes effect.

Your Visit: What to Expect
1. Initial Visit
On the day of your initial visit (remember, Florida law requires two appointments at least 24 hours apart to have an abortion):
You will fill out paperwork, complete lab work, have an ultrasound, and meet with an educator. The educator will ask about your medical history, discuss your options with you, as well as the entire abortion process, after-care instructions, birth control options, and will address any of your concerns. This appointment generally lasts an hour and a half.
2. Second Visit
At this appointment, a health care provider will review your patient information and medical history, may repeat lab work and ultrasound, and will answer any questions you may have. You will also fill out consent forms and then depending on whether you are having a medication abortion or in-clinic abortion, you will receive instructions and care pertaining to the specific procedure. Depending on the type of abortion care, this appointment can last 1-3 hours.
3. Follow up
After your visit, you may need to follow up with your provider. This visit may include an ultrasound, blood test or other follow-up work.
Medication Abortion:
Available for people 11 weeks or less from their last menstrual cycle. A medication abortion is also called the abortion pill and it is a safe and effective way to end an early pregnancy. Medication abortion refers to using two different medicines to end a pregnancy: mifepristone and misoprostol.
In-Clinic Abortion:
Available for people up to and at 15 weeks from their last menstrual period. In-clinic abortions are sometimes called surgical abortions, though they're generally an in-office procedure, not surgery.
Abortion Care for People Under 18
Florida law requires teens to notify a parent unless you feel it would be in your best interest not to.
